TL;DR I quit speedrunning. Still will linger in the community for awhile, but I'm done putting any real amount of effort into games.

Hello, I am Kinikola, I am from USA!
I started speedrunning back in spring of 2013 after seeing a few Cosmo videos on youtube, first with Wind Waker and then (according to my 20 shines notes) Sunshine starting on August 19th. Honey's run was new and inspiring to me, speedrunning shed a new light on all old video games I played as a kid. Speedrunning completely blew my mind, when I first was interested, I told everyone in my life about it so they could see this crazy style of beating games, but none of them seemed to care or be as mind blown as I was, but I continued on.

My first Sunshine any% run was in December 2013 and I believe it was somewhere around a 1:58, but I used race file at the time so really like 2:04ish I think. The experience was exciting to me, seeing where practice payed off and where I could improve was rewarding and addicting and I kept practicing and becoming better and better playing every day.

In February 2014 Gelato Skip was found by Touval and everyone in the community was pumped! I added some of the people I looked up to on skype and was starstruck to see the names of Pyroshade and Paperario on my contacts list. I began to talk to them, and only became more inspired as time went on. I made friends with more people in the community and it just made me want to play more. This trend continued on for the rest of the year.

Around thanksgiving I got a big idea, to take the 120 shine record. It wasn't that difficult to take at the time and my plan was to take it out of nowhere without letting anyone know I was practicing in order to make them think there was no threat to their name on the leaderboard, and have the competition be unpracticed when I took it. This is why I only told the two members of my crew cr2, that I was doing it, as they were, "The ally." Things were going well with practice, my first run was a 3:40 and the plan was in motion. 

Around this time a runner called R2Powered improved at an alarming rate. He went from a 1:22 which around then was an, "alright" time to have and progressed to a 1:20:01, a time a top runner would have. This made me very suspicious, and I tried analyzing the audio to see if he was cheating. I was not able to come to any conclusions, but to this day I still believe that R2Powered has cheated, it might not have been that run or in the way I thought he did, but something is incredibly fishy about that whole situation. Whenever this is brought up in a stream he always whines about it and mocks me trying to make me seem like the bad guy when I'm just trying to keep the leaderboards free of people cheating. Maybe it's to cover up, who knows, but he isn't worth my time.

This story is relevant because it destroyed my motivation to practice, I never practiced as hard as I did before or as often as I used to. It was really getting me down when I realized how easy it is to cheat and how I didn't want to put any effort into something that I could just cheat my way to the top of. The community mocking my efforts to remove anyone suspicious also didn't help anything, as I felt like I was just trying to help them out.

As 2015 came around there was a race in February for 120 shines, and I couldn't wait any longer to prove myself as a good 120 runner. I entered the race and placed second to Averagetrey, most were surprised that I knew 120 but none had great reactions as I had hoped for, and taking second place to Averagetrey isn't anything that special. This is the only 120 run of mine ever recorded and streamed from an ipod skype call by my buddy I_lovesnoopy. This run is the only 120 run of mine that has ever been streamed.

I met Snoopy and Kimber through Bboy in the winter 2015 and became good friends with them in the spring. I talked to them a lot on skype and I realized I was having a lot more fun talking to them over speedrunning. I improved my any% pb slightly in the spring but I was really slacking and to be quite honest, I didn't mind, I was having fun and I didn't care.

I got into Kirby air ride a little, and playing it is probably the most fun or very close to the most fun I've ever had speedrunning. If I do return at all to speedrunning, which is unlikely but possible, I will definitely give that game and that community another visit. I love the community for that game and would recommend it to anyone looking to get into a good game and community.

My motivation from spring to this summer was kind of nonexistent and I don't want to drag on a limping speedrunning career. 

In closing, I've made many friendships throughout speedrunning that I have cherished greatly, you guys have given me an opportunity to come out of my shell and express myself, which I struggled with a lot when I did attend school. Thank you so much and I wish (mostly) all of you the best!

You are obsessed with running community things in the most optimal way possible, which in many cases can be a bad mindset. I have seen you in other chats claiming that if you would run sm64, you would run on vc fs. Yes that is most optimal. ConFUCKINGgrats, you identified the "logical" way to run the game. You saved so much time from not resetting the game right? No, in the long run you are not saving any time. You would lose all the time again trumpeting how you are more logical than everyone else, and then arguing with everyone else telling them to switch. Ultimately, what you achieved by switching to vc fs is making the community pissed off, not actually saving any time or helping anyone. Unless you change this mindset and listen to the people's opinion, and obey what people have already agreed upon, I recommend that you step down as a mod on the leaderboard if you are truly interested in a better sms community. P.S. I have noticed that every argument on a big leaderboard issue you have always "won" Halqery is currently unbanned (even though the strawpoll clearly determined that people wanted him to be banned for longer than you), and everyone is using FS. Maybe you're abusing your power a little too much? I'd love to see a situation where you are willing to accept the opinions of others overwhelming your own. Until then, I think Sid would be a pretty good leaderboard mod.
