Huge thanks to all the geniuses in #yoshi who came up with most of the strats I've listed. All times correlate to the YouTube video timer, not the WSplit timer on the screen. ==WORLD 1== [6:12] 1-3 Bonus skip: Jump off the slope and run all the way into the goal. Make sure you do NOT perfect jump. [7:57] 1-4 Piranha room: Use jumping neutrals on the bottom two piranhas to avoid spawning stars/coins thus preventing lag. [13:00] 1-6 Three red coins in 3rd room: Make sure you have at least 4 eggs before the 3rd room, and preferrably a red egg in your 3rd egg slot. Immediately hold up when entering the room and then fire an up shot when the screen starts to scroll. For the second shot, do another up shot while running forward so the egg angles behind you. The visual cue I use for when to fire is when Yoshi is between the two slightly large lumps in the ground. DO NOT use flowers on the ground as visual cues because they're actually random lol [13:58] 1-6 Beanstalk skip: Try to bounce off the stilt shyguy without fluttering, and then bounce off the bat as high as you can so you can collect both red coins and land on the ledge without an extra flutter. [14:46] 1-7 Flashing red eggs/flower: First egg jump from the slope while aiming an egg, then fire the egg near the peak of your jump. Flutter to collect the first flashing egg, then walk down the slope a little bit. After you walk down the slope, the screen should scroll up with you as you jump. From there you can do an upshot into the foam to collect the flower and the flashing egg should come down with it. [15:42] 1-7 Bonus skip: Duck in between the last section on the ground where the grass parts. Run forward to collect the last red coin. [17:10] 1-8 Switch/pot shot: Don't jump too quickly when getting in position for the switch shot otherwise it will mess up the screen scroll. Try to aim inbetween the spinning red platform and the log platform. If you fall to quickly here it might scroll the screen down too quickly, so for extra safety you can flutter for a split second until you're sure the egg hit the switch. For the pot shot, start an up aim as you're landing on the spinning platform, and then release when you pass the wall. ==WORLD 2== [20:58] 2-1 Autoscroll end timing: Jump over the last falling block as soon as possible and activate the hidden cloud with a jump. Upshot right away and move right. [22:35] 2-2 Double single dupes: Make sure you have at least 3 eggs going into this section. Horizontal spit the toadie to the right, up spit both red coin shy guys to the left. Grab the toadie and walk a little bit past the arrow sign on the right. Collect the coins with a jumping neutral and an upshot. Keep in mind, if you use this strat you also need to do the mole shot to collect one more red coin. [22:40] 2-2 Stair red coins: When you fall onto the stairs, press left then right to hit the stairs quicker. Fire a neutral to the right. Be careful to not accidentally hit down and swallow the toadie when doing this. 'C_' [23:17] 2-2 Quick arrow section flower: Use the bouncy arrow to go up. Hold jump/right the whole way and do a falling neutral at the peak. This should hit the flower cloud, then use another egg to collect the flower while running by. Shooting the 2nd egg too quickly will cause it to miss. [23:55] 2-2 Bat-kun's red coin: Start aiming as you jump to go down to the next section, and release the egg when you start to fall. Don't stop running right or the red coin may not spawn in time. [24:00] 2-2 Extra stars: When you do an upshot on this star cloud, release up immediately after firing to spawn two extra stars. [24:58] 2-3 First star cloud: After the first flower, jump over the small hill while starting an up aim. Release and jump around when you get to the log. Pay close attention when you get to the two gusties after the star cloud. If the top gusty is ahead of the bottom one, you will need to hold jump longer before swallowing the gusty or else you'll get hit. [25:15] 2-3 Foam: Do a falling neutral as soon as you enter the room, and then another falling neutral as you fall from the first block of foam. [26:25] 2-3 Bonus skip: Same idea as 1-3. Jump off the beginning of the slope. [28:55] 2-4 Last red coin shot: Do a neutral on the line between the first two bricks after the pipe. [32:33] 2-6 Behind the gate coin shot: Collect the yellow egg block on the left, and line yourself up using the side of the right yellow egg block. Do a groundpound and let go of down as soon as you break through the second section of foam. From there, use the specific egg shot line-up (the top left part of the aiming reticle lines up with a gap in the wall). Fire the egg while holding right. NOTE: Sometimes, for whatever reason, it will look like you only hit 2 of the 3 red coins, but with this setup you will NEVER miss all 3. [33:28] 2-6 Rising arrow shot: This shot is pretty tricky, and it's not something I can really explain. The angle you lock before going up almost doesn't even matter, but different angles require different shot timings. Mess around with it, because it's really not hard at all. Also, pay close attention after you shoot at these arrows in general as sometimes they'll troll by not reaching the flower. [35:16] 2-7 Bullet Bill groundpounds: Tongue and spit the flashing shy guy quickly and do the first ground pound inbetween both posts. Jump tongue and spit the top bullet bill and then continue groundpounding. [36:49] 2-7 Double flutterless: Skip the save ring by jumping and holding right at the same time. Run under the car bubble so you have enough room to get full speed. Jump right before the slope and try to turn to the right at the edge of the help box. You can do an easier and very slightly slower version by jumping off the help box on the left side to get enough speed for the flutterless jump. NOTE: DO NOT attempt to go under the car bubble if you go through the save ring or else you will turn into the car. [37:48] 2-8 Post hopping: Run off the first platform and jump as soon as you land on the post. From the 2nd platform, jump and up tongue the 1-up shyguy. For the next post jumps, you need to pay attention to the jumping flame. If he goes high, you can just go under him without any worry. If he goes low, you can still jump over him without slowing down but it's a tigher jump. I would recommend either doing a quick left right just to make sure you land on the 2nd post, or if you already have an egg at this point, fire an egg at the flame. 2-8 Boss fight: Not showcased in this video, but there is a slightly faster way to kill the boss. I've never tried it because it seems there's a high chance of getting hit if you mess up, but you can see it here: http://www.twitch.tv/carlsagan42/b/552264348t=39m18s ==WORLD 3== [44:00] 3-1 End section: If you're using eggs to shoot the 19th coin and 5th flower, space out your egg shots to reduce lag. Remember eggs angle behind you if you do an upshot while moving forward. [44:50] 3-2 Star route: I messed up in this video, but the visual cues for the first two egg shots can still be seen. The first shot is a neutral right before the big leaf in the background while the second shot is a neutral right before the 2nd big leaf right before the background. I shot too late in the video. If this happens to you, the best back-up is probably just to get stars from the tulip. Refer to my 2:37 video for a well-executed version of this route. [46:43] 3-3 Skipping eggs: Easy way to collect the lower red coin in this section is by doing a falling neutral. [47:50] 3-3 Sub section: The movement through this section is probably the fastest way to go through without relying on torpedo RNG. [48:57] 3-3 Red coin shot: This shot is pretty inconsistent in general, so just flutter under the ceiling while trying to shoot the red coin. I've found locking an angle slightly lower than horizontal works best. [54:55] 3-5 Pinwheel coins and monkey spit: Jump from the second grassy flat part on the mud hill after the mid ring and do a falling neutral to collect the red coins. Immediately after firing, up tongue the monkey and up spit him right away to send him into the star cloud up ahead. [57:25] 3-6 Switch yump "consistent" setup: Hold left until you reach the ground from the pipe and neutral into the corner. Go right as soon as you fire your egg and time your jumps. The goal is to hit the cloud at its lowest point which happens to be around the peak of Yoshi's jump. You can also try to stand right under the cloud, shoot it at its lowest point, and try jumping straight up to get a feel for the timing of the jump. [58:28] 3-7 Monkey spit: Keep the monkey from the beginning and when you land on the lowest block hold up, right, jump, and spit. [1:00:20] 3-7 End red coin shots: Use jumping neutrals as you jump from post to post. You won't get any weird ricochets this way that may cause lag. [1:01:00] 3-8 Pipe Ghost: Generally you will come into this stage with 5 eggs, so when the ghost spits a shy guy at you just keep him in your mouth and eat him later. The first two shots are neutrals. The 3rd shot you can do another neutral, but I find it much more consistent to aim from neutral a tiny bit. The 4th shot aim horizontally into the diagonal wall. [1:01:10] 3-8 Piranha fish: While it's not a huge time saver, left right'ing through this fish saves you an egg which will allow you to shoot an egg at the two red coins at the bottom of this room instead of manually collecting them. I mess it up here, but you can see the strat in my 3-8 IL. Speaking of my 3-8 IL... watch that instead of this train wreck of a level. ==WORLD 4== [1:06:03] 4-1 Top route: You can shoot the flower from pretty close to off-screen here. After the flower, jump and tongue the firing bullet bill and jump on top of it rather than going around. [1:06:10] 4-1 Lag reduction: Do a somewhat late jumping neutral to collect the first red coin here, and a falling neutral off the koopa for the second red coin. This will avoid hitting koopas and spawning stars. [1:08:37] 4-2 Falling room red coins: Lock some downward angled shot, doesn't really matter what it is. Line yourself up with the ledge as you fall off. When you see the coins start appearing on the screen, fade to the left and shoot the first red coin. Touch the second red coin while moving right and fire a neutral, this will collect coins three and four. You can groundpound to get the last coin if you know where to do it, but I don't think it's much faster if at all. I would also advise against doing the groundpound unless you have an extra egg. [1:09:10] 4-2 Red coin shyguy: You can do a neutral into the right wall to hit the shyguy, and then a jumping neutral facing left to collect the coin. I don't usually do this unless I have a surplus of eggs, because you miss out on three eggs. It's also not a bad idea to do the first neutral to spawn some extra stars even if you collect the coin manually. When you exit this room, jump directly from the pipe onto the next ledge rather than hopping onto the stairs first. [1:10:55] 4-3 Red coin shyguy: If you get enough speed to get on the platform here without fluttering, you can do a neutral to snipe the red coin shyguy instead of waiting for him. 4-4 NOTE: Try to end the stage with at least one egg. It makes life easier in 4-5. [1:19:17] 4-5 Small optimizations: Jump on the left side of the koopa climbing up to the top of the hill and hold jump all the way. This will land you right into the hole in the wall after your extended flutter. After that, don't groundpound the block all the way into the ground so you don't have to push it off the pipe afterwards. [1:20:20] 4-6 ???: I didn't mean to shoot the shell here, but it actually kind of worked out in clearing the foam. Something to look into. [1:22:55] 4-7 Shell bounce: Stand under the second coin, upspit the shell and jump very slightly after spitting. Shoot the two red coins on the left. Catching the egg afterwards is optional s w a g. [1:25:20] 4-8 Milde room: Start aiming as soon as you can, then move right. Release your egg and jump as you reach the end of the pipe. This strat is kind of finnicky to do quickly because the mildes glitch out sometimes. If you bounce on the milde you knocked up while it's in the air, it becomes very consistent. Also, this strat kind of sucks if you only have one egg coming into the room as you can see in the vid. [1:25:52] 4-8 Breakout section: As you enter this room, do an upshot and release up immediately after shooting. After that, move to the left and fire two neutrals into the blocks while facing left. Leave this room with four eggs. ==WORLD 5== 5-1 I played really poorly overall in this level. Check out zvsp's IL for some cool strats in the last room that I couldn't do here due to low egg/star count. [1:31:35] 5-2 Cloud route: If you bounce on the first penguin and just hold the jump button, you will pretty much fall right onto the lakitu to get the cloud. Groundpound the egg flower to get some extra eggs if you only have between zero and two eggs. [1:32:10] 5-2 Asides: It's a good idea to bounce on the snowman at the top of the hill just as a star count check. When you're jumping on the snowmen on ski lifts afterwards, hold jump until just before the auto flutter kicks in and on the second snowman release jump very quickly after bouncing. For the bonus skip, it may be worth it to find a way to line yourself up and jump at a specific timing while watching the wheel. I haven't had much luck with it, and it's a pretty tight frame window. [1:33:55] 5-3 Eggs: Make sure you get six eggs here, or five at the very least. There is only one egg block to get eggs after this point. [1:34:25] 5-3 Strat without waiting: Flutter three times and fire a neutral egg right before you collect the red coin. There is a faster way to go through this section without fluttering by bouncing on the snowmen below, but it requires an extra egg shot to collect the red coin you would normally touch. It may not be worth it depending on how many eggs you have as well as which strat you use for the spike section in this room. [1:36:58] 5-4 First flower: Make sure you're at the peak of your flutters when moving between the spongey platforms. You can grab the flower with one egg if you do an upshot with a quick release on up. [1:38:43] :> [1:40:48] 5-4 Sluggy one-shots: These are neutral eggs. I do a pretty horrible job in this video, but I find this strat to be the easiest and most consistent although it is sometimes difficult to keep track of the visual cues for shooting. The first shot I do (which connects) is the beginning point for the neutrals. After the first shot, you need to move back about half a block on screen and then shoot from that spot. Repeat for shots three and four. [1:41:48] 5-5 Shyguy bounce: As soon as you grab the shyguy from the goonie here, upspit it as you fall but continue to hold forward. The shyguy should stop in a good spot to bounce off of and get up to the red coin/pipe. [1:42:05] 5-5 Pipe: Hold B as you fall from the pipe to land on the platform below without the need for a flutter. [1:44:00] 5-6 General advice: Don't get hit and make 30 stars before the end of the autoscroll section. Try to keep a gusty to do a Zewing skip at the end of the level rather than doing a screen scroll bonus skip. [1:49:53] 5-7 Last flower: Jump to grab the second red coin here and hold jump to initiate an auto flutter. Fluttering under the falling rock should push you up to the last flower. If you mess this up, jump from the second platform from the right and flutter up. ==WORLD 6== [1:56:15] 6-1 Chomps: If you see that the chomps aren't falling immediately when you get to the box, you either push it right away or go for a somewhat precise eggshot to grab the two red coins. The eggshot will cause a lot of lag more often than not, so be weary of that. [1:59:12] 6-2 Bandit: Try to scare this bandit so he runs away when you grab the red coin. If you don't touch him after he runs away, he won't be an asshole like he was in this run. [1:59:26] 6-2 Flower cloud: Start aiming an egg when you land on the raised ledge and fire it when you fall off to pop the cloud and collect the flower without stopping. [1:59:53] 6-2 Baby mario top route: Jump and manually initiate a "flutter" with baby mario when you reach the lavafall in the background. When you do this strat in 100%, make sure to jump over the star and grab the red coin first and star after so you still have enough time to make it to the end when you skip the last baby mario star. [2:00:47] 6-3 General: Coming into this stage with three or more eggs saves a lot of time in collecting the first few flowers and red coins. [2:00:52] 6-3 Post jumps: Dumb strat that saves very little time. Probably not worth going for it. [2:02:30] 6-3 Stars: It's incredibly slow to make back-up stars and eggs in this stage, so just don't get hit like I did here... Also don't get a bonus. [2:03:45] 6-4 Ghost: I think this is the result of turning around too quickly for this ghost. If this happens to you, you can just damage boost through I'm pretty sure, or ricochet against the moving platform. Also, if you do kill the ghost, collect the stars that he drops otherwise there's a good chance a red coin will despawn in the next section. [2:04:28] 6-4 Slime fight: Slightly angled up shot in the middle of the platform, followed by a horizontal shot. If he goes right, follow him and do upshots. If he goes left, stay still and do up shots. [2:06:57] 6-4 Boss fight: If you have four eggs coming into this fight, you can do this strat. As soon as tap tap's feet touch the ground, fire a neutral and while in the firing animation, move a little bit to the left. Fire another neutral. Walk into the small pit hug the right side and fire a jumping neutral while fading back, followed by another jumping neutral. Jump out of the pit as fast as you can after the fourth shot. [2:07:55] 6-5 General: Make 30 stars to skip every middle ring. Don't waste eggs in the second autoscroll because you need them for foam. Try to end the level with two or three red eggs. [2:10:55] 6-5 Lava rock: Buffer a flutter for this part, so you can just walk off the ledge and flutter onto the rock after bonking your head once. [2:13:55] 6-6 Learn rockless... it's honestly not that hard. Grind it for an hour and you'll be good to go. [2:15:39] 6-6 Flutterless: Check https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X075_1hZcR4 for the strat I was trying to do here. [2:16:34] 6-7 Screen scroll: Jump from just before the slope onto the wooden platform and run along it to lock the screen up. In this video, I jumped slightly late. [2:18:20] 6-7 Autoscroll: If you're good at making stars here you can skip the save ring ahead. [2:19:40] 6-7 Gatehack: If the gatehack doesn't work on the second try or third(?) try it will never work, so just go around. 6-8 General: Try to make stars in the autoscroll and don't get hit. If you get 30 stars then skip the savering because you auto-save once you enter the boss door. If you get hit in final Bowser you can get a star sometimes if you shoot a big egg straight up. If you miss TiA reset your run because it's shit. ==EXTRAS== [2:27:25] 6-E Eggs: You only need two eggs from here to the end of the level, so only grab as many as you need from the egg block. [2:27:35] 6-E Savering skip: My setup for this is really inconsistent, so use MT's https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTtzj6dtUlc [2:28:25] 6-E Egg block: When you land at the bottom of this fall, do an uptongue while running forward to block an egg from mitt-san. [2:29:20] 4-E Red egg route: You can gather enough stars without groundpounding the crate even if you don't bring any red eggs into this stage, but it is much easier if you go here after 6-E. [2:33:11] 5-E Red coin guys: Use a neutral when you're a bit to the left of where the flower is/was, then do a quick falling neutral by rolling your thumb from B to A. You can use your last egg to shoot the first red coin since you don't need eggs after this point. [2:34:10] 5-E Helicoptor route: I didn't mean to do this strat since I haven't practiced it much yet, but you get the gist of it. Get the flower then coins on the left, then grab the coins on the right. [2:36:28] 3-E Star back-up: Not new, but this is how you make back-up stars here if you don't already know. [2:37:15] 2-E is a pretty straight-forward level. It's a bit quicker if you have some eggs from 3-E to pop the star clouds at the beginning, but other than that there isn't much you can do. [2:39:15] 1-E Bats: Get at least five eggs for the beginning before you start fluttering up. If you get really bad bat spawns (i.e. they're all very low compared to your height), you can try to kill the bats with an egg to spawn new ones. Only three bats can be on screen at a time, so take advantage of that if you think it will help. [2:39:38] 1-E Poochy: Apparently Poochy won't come up until you move to the right. TIL [2:39:52] 1-E Relax: Just ride Poochy from this point on. You have to wait for him anyway, so there's no reason to rush ahead and risk getting hit by bats and other non-sense.
